I have decided that it would be fun to start a weight loss contest within the family. I have a few ideas that I will share, and would love some feedback from everyone interested. Here is what I'm thinking so far:
1- Everyone that wants to participate will pay $20.00.
2- There will be 2 winners to split the money at the end. The person who loses the most weight, and the person who earns the most points. We can either do total weight lost, or by percentage. Points can be earned in several different ways. If all the adults in our family participate that will be $110 per winner. Not too shabby.
3- This contest will start January 5, and end the Sunday before mom and dad leave for KL. Just about 12 weeks.
4- Points can be earned by working out, drinking water, and making healthy food choices.
As far as the point system goes, I would do it something like this:
1 point for working out for half an hour
2 points for an hour or more
1 point if you drink six 8 oz. glasses of water
1 point for no soda (diet or regular)
1 point for no candy or sweets
Any other ideas for points?
I will update this blog weekly with point totals, and everyone's weight loss, so I will need to know how much everyone weighs to begin with. I hope that doesn't make anyone not want to participate. This is for fun, and to get everyone motivated to lose weight. Remember, we are going to Hawaii in 2010, lets all look AMAZING! I figure we can do this contest every three months or so, depending on how it goes this time. So please participate. I will try to plan fun activities every week or so that we can all do. Wallyball, swimming, basketball, etc. We can have our own races, or sign up for races close by. I would also like a "before" picture of everyone. So this Sunday, after Giada's blessing I will take everyone's picture, so bring your swimming suit. Haha! Just kidding. I'll just take one in regular clothes.
This is just the beginning, so any and all of your ideas are welcome. Also, let me know if you think we should keep this just within our family, or if we should add the whole Sanders and or Bingham families as well. (More money for the winners)

That's awesome Jennie! I'm in! I will have to talk to the doctor because since I'm nursing, I need to have an approved way to loose weight that won't afect my milk production, but I really need to start losing some baby weight. (since I have 3 baby weights on me to loose...) So, count me in!
ReplyDeleteI have questions about points ... I assume that you earn points for everyday. I am wondering about adding points for not exceeding a certain caloric intake (individually based, of course), for not eating out (specifically at fast food restaurants, but I'm certainly open to more). Also, on the points earned for workouts - you said 2 for working out for over an hour - is that PER workout?

I thought about that stuff too. We can sit down on Sunday and decide the calories, and the eating out thing. I think as far as working out though, it should just be per day. Not everyone can work out once a day, much less twice, and I want everyone to feel like they have a chance at winning, but again, lets talk about it on Sunday and see what everyone thinks.
ReplyDeletei kinda think the point tally would be a better way to go about it cuz some people dont have more than 5 or 10 pounds to lose so their percentage will be really low.

ReplyDeleteNolan and I are most likely in since we have started our new years goal a few days ago for getting in better shape, loosing a few lbs and getting RIPPED ya know. My goal is to loose 30 lbs. What do ya think... Ha ha.. JK.. The points thing sounds good to me. I think its a good idea Jennie and what's not more important than being healthy even though its so dang hard when treats sound so much better than working out. I'm excited for everyone.

ReplyDeleteThere is a way to set up everyone who is going to participate as authors on the blog - that way whenever anyone posts - it will show exactly WHO is posting. I have my butterfly girls blog set up that way.
Robyn is definitely in. What a great idea. This will help make healthy choices easier to make and more fun. I like the idea of a winner for weight loss (percentage) and for points because we all have different goals. I'll bring my swimsuit Sunday. HA!
